Residential Programs

Since 1972, Lori Knapp Companies have been providing residential services for people with disabilities and the elderly. Lori Knapp Companies were the first in the Midwest to allow people with developmental disabilities to leave the institution and to live in their home communities. Since our first eight-bed group home was established, Lori Knapp Companies have been leaders in the field of residential housing. Our current emphasis is on adults with developmental disabilities in four-bed fully accessible Adult Family Homes and children with developmental disabilities in four-bed state of the art Children’s Treatment Foster Homes.  Under development are four-bed homes for children with behavioral needs. In addition, Lori Knapp Companies have homes from two to eight beds developed for consumers with special or unusual needs.  We  take pride in seeing that consumers are allowed to have the same opportunities that other citizens have. We give consumers a choice of available community activities, as well as help identify vacation trip options with a low consumer-to-staff ratio.

Home Care Services

Lori Knapp Companies believes that people should have the choice of remaining safely in their own homes until their needs demand a greater level of care. To encourage this philosophy, Lori Knapp Companies established Supportive Home Care, Personal Care and Developmental Care programs for people with disabilities and the elderly in 1996. These programs help consumers with basic chore services such as house keeping, by providing higher level of care with personal cares such as bathing and other cares, or helping people with disabilities learn and develop skills to become more independent.

Community Support Programs

At times, people with mental illness are the least served in a community. Their needs are great but services are sometimes limited. Lori Knapp Companies, through the cooperation and direction of the county CSP Programs, does in-home supports for people with mental illness. These supports can include companionship, medication monitoring, job coaching, and basic skills training.

Professional Employee Leasing Program

County agencies sometimes require limited term professional or specialized employees for transportation, children’s development, universal worker, and other professional services. Lori Knapp Companies can act as the employer/fiscal agent to hire, maintain employment records, and provide a limited amount of employment supervision. The direct supervision of the employees is usually with the county agencies.

Professional Consultation Program

Knapp’s Development, Inc, Lori Knapp Companies’ Management Team, has over 150 years collectively of experience in the human services field. Team Members include Donald B. Knapp, President and CEO; Cheryl Mader, Operations Manager; Steve Mercaitis, Development and Marketing Director; Kelly Gochenaur, Program Director; Todd Knapp, IT Director; Gerry Born, Consultant; and Jane Bushnell, Human Resources Director. This team develops new programs, writes program manuals, problem solves, works with state and local governments, and supports the Lori Knapp Companies. The team can help with most aspects of human services organization from simple consultation to complex development of IT systems.

Microsoft Excel Training

Tony Wedgeworth has over 20 years experience in extensive Excel programming, Gantt charts, bottom line financial improvements, capital budgets developed & tracked, capital equipment research & planning, document control and creation, and process improvements. Tony’s Excel training can hit upon many topics and many degrees of knowledge. If you want a beginners course to an advanced course, Tony is able to teach your students. Fire Safety Training

Lori Knapp Companies has a State certified Community Based Residential Facility (CBRF) Fire Safety Trainer, Pam Hamann (2387-I) that can come to your facility or organization for the live Fire Safety training as required for DHS 83. Pam has taught over 31 classes with over 175 students in the past two years since she has been certified. Included in this training will be all materials needed to complete the training, testing, and certification of training. Professional Home Design and Building Program

People leaving institutions with physical and developmental needs require unique housing. Until 2000, Lori Knapp Companies purchased existing properties and retrofitted them for consumer satisfaction. To provide our consumers with the best possible living environment, in 2000 we teamed with John Wick Builders to design and construct homes specific to the needs of people with disabilities. All homes are totally handicapped accessible, meet all ADA, state and local codes, have four bedrooms and office/staff bedroom and two large baths (one with a walk-in shower). Separate bedrooms provide privacy and individual space for each consumer. Lori Knapp Companies can review your design and construction plans; or, have us put together a turn key package, including licensing materials, forms, and training to make your new house a state of the art Adult Family Home.
